8 Foods You Should Never Eat If You Have Joint Pain

Pain in the joints can range anywhere from mild to severe, acute to chronic.

It can be accompanied by discomfort, inflammation or pain in any part of the joint and it is most commonly caused by injuries, dislocated or broken bones, gout, arthritis, fibromyalgia and lupus.  If you are suffering from pain in the joints, the inflammation may be aggravated by the foods that you are eating.  If you want to help keep the pain away, here are 8 foods you should be avoiding:

  1. Sugar

As much as we all love eating desserts, donuts and chocolate bars, you will want to resist the temptation if you are suffering from joint pain.  All those processed sugars can trigger the release of certain inflammatory messengers called cytokines.  This includes not only the sugar in candy, but also in cereals, sodas and other snacks.  All excess sugar in your bodies puts pressure on your joints and can also lead to gaining weight.

  1. Monosodium glutamate

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is an additive to enhance the flavor of foods and is found most commonly in Asian foods, soy sauce and others.  However, you can also find it in prepared soups and soup mixes, deli meats, salad dressings and fast food meals.  The MSG can lead to inflammation and make joint pain worse.

  1. Alcohol

Alcohol is not only bad for your liver but excessive alcohol can also have an adverse effect on your joint pain.    The purines that beer contains are converted into uric acid in your body and this has an extremely detrimental effect on your joint pain.  In addition, the gluten that beer also contains can harm fragile joints.

  1. Refined Carbohydrates

Products containing white flour, such as bread, crackers, many cereals, white potatoes and white rice are all refined carbohydrates. Studies have linked processed carbs, which have a high glycemic index, to being one of the main causes of obesity and some other chronic conditions. Such foods fuel production of AGE, which stimulates inflammatory processes.
